Highfield Dental & Facial Clinic is taking part in Mouth Cancer Action Month

November is Mouth Cancer Action Month and at Highfield Dental & Facial Clinic, we are raising awareness of the symptoms of mouth cancer and how people can check themselves.

Over the last year, 8,337 people in the UK were given the life-changing news that they have mouth cancer.

Some of the main symptoms of mouth cancer to look out for are:

  • Non healing ulcers
  • Red or white patches, especially when they’re sore and not healing
  • An ulcer that has been there for more than three weeks

At Highfield Dental & Facial Clinic, we check overall oral health during all dental examinations and would flag any concerns to patients if we felt that they needed to see a doctor to rule out mouth cancer.

The Oral Health Foundation has a great video on how to check your mouth for cancer at home. If you notice anything out of the ordinary, make an appointment with your dentist or doctor to get it checked by a professional as soon as possible.

Our team will be taking part in Blue Wednesday as part of Mouth Cancer Action Month and snapping a blue-lipped selfie. We’ll also be displaying the symptoms of mouth cancer in our reception area and sharing guidance on our social media channels.

My visits to Highfield Dental and Facial Clinic have been very positive. All the staff are friendly and professional. I feel safe and 'listened to' when I am sat in the dentist chair. Treatment and costings are fully explained. Thank you Team.
